في يوليو 2011، أعلنت دولة جنوب السودان استقلالها عن السودان بعد عقود من الصراعات والحروب الأهلية. كانت هذه الخطوة تهدف إلى تحقيق الاستقرار والسلام وتوفير حياة أفضل للشعب الجنوبي، ولكن سرعان ما واجهت جنوب السودان تحديات كبيرة بعد استقلالها.
